Do you like to take sermon notes? I do. Always have. They aren’t always pretty! In fact, the one above is a real mess. One very large church I attended would hand you a perfectly printed “Sermon Notes” page when you came in just in case you wanted to fill in the blanks from the Pastor’s main points. That was nice and I could put it on my fridge during the week to remind me what the message was about and apply it to my daily life. However, not all of my blanks got filled in if I got distracted during the sermon. Oops! In my father’s church, we didn’t have those fancy papers and I just used whatever paper I had. Sometimes, I would be so exhausted from working and taking care of my little girls that I would scribble just trying to get the point down before my father moved on to the next one. To be honest, those kind on plain notebook paper with my messy scribble in purple ink are the kind I like to keep. My life is far from perfect. I’m never going to be perfect and neither will my notes.
Eight years ago, my father preached a sermon on “10 Conditions For God Answering Prayer” and today while cleaning out my Bible bag, I came across my messy notes from that night. I had kept it right with my Bible, inside it for a while and then folded in a pocket inside the back of my new bag to keep it safe. The notes I took while listening to my father preach are my favorites. This one will always stay with my Bible.
Here are the points from my father‘s sermon the best I can tell from my scribble…
10 Conditions For God Answering Prayer
#1 Mark 11:22-24 Have faith in God
#2 Pray for exactly what you want, be specific
#3 Have UNLIMITED faith
#4 Do not doubt your heart (anyone can doubt), BELIEVE
#5 Believe that whatever you ask God will give it to you
#6 Be AUTHORITATIVE, command what you ask to come to pass
#7 Believe that what you ask for is God’s will
#8 Believe what you ask for is given
#9 Never pray “IF it be thy will” about what God has promised
#10 Have a clean heart/life/hand when you come to God
That’s the best I can make out of my scribble you guys! I’m going to write or print these out and put them up… maybe on my fridge.
Oh, and see Dad… I ALWAYS paid attention during your preaching. Nothing was ever lost on me. Good sermon. I love you.
